There are no details of the proposal, but the St John's Church spokesperson suggested a small scale high rise is possible. (see John Ryan).
The proposal is a text book example of inappropriate development. It will not proceed if the community remains vigilant and continues to voice strong objections.
Here are some steps you can take to protect our heritage:
Follow, like and recommend the Save St John's Precinct on Facebook. Here is the link.
Sign the petition. There is a petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of NSW. The petition is for the Legislative Assembly to take all the necessary steps to ensure the preservation of the St John's Anglican Church Precinct as listing in the State Heritage Register, including opposing subdivision, curtilage reduction, inappropriate development and ensuring adequate maintenance.
Collect signatures for the petition. Download the DIY kit and start collecting! No need to door knock, just ask your family, friends, neighbours and visitors to sign and mail back. The goal is to collect over 10,000 signatures. (Petitions of more than 10,000 signatures will be scheduled for discussion in the House.)
Send a letter or email to any or all (old fashioned letters are still important, use your own words and tell people how important the open space is to you, your family and your children):
