In attempting to sell the land, the Church claims it has more power than the NSW Supreme Court to vary the terms of its Charitable trusts, an assertion that needs to be tested.
The proposal is a textbook example of the entitled mentality of a privileged group. It will not proceed if the community remains vigilant voices objections.
Here are some steps you can take to protect our heritage:
Sign the petition. There is a petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of NSW. The petition is for the Legislative Assembly to take all the necessary steps to preserve the St John's Anglican Church Precinct as listed in the State Heritage Register, including opposing subdivision, curtilage reduction, inappropriate development and ensuring adequate maintenance.
Collect signatures for the petition. Download the DIY kit and start collecting! There is no need to door knock. Ask your family, friends, neighbours and visitors to sign and mail back. The goal is to collect over 10,000 signatures. (Petitions of more than 10,000 signatures will ensure discussion in the House.)
Send a letter or email to any or all (old-fashioned letters are still important, Use your own words and tell people how important the open space is to you, your family and your children):
